Zaditen (Ketoifen) is an asthma medication that can reduce the frequency, severity, and length of asthma symptoms or asthma attacks in children.  Zaditen, when used everyday along with other antiasthma medicines can eventually reduce the daily requirements of other asthma medications.  Zaditen does not prevent or treat acute asthma attacks.  It works by stopping certain substances in the body from causing inflammation and symptoms of asthma.

Store Zaditen at room temperature out of reach of children. Do not store tablets in damp or moist places. Do not keep outdated medicine that is no longer needed.

Tell your doctor about any medications you are taking (prescription and non-prescription) before taking Zaditen, especially if you are taking antidiabetics, antihistamines, hypnotics, or sedatives.  Tell your doctor if you have medicical problems such as diabetes or epilepsy before taking Zaditen.

Many medicines have not been studies specifically in older adults.  Zaditen may not work the same way they work in younger adults, or they may cause different side effects or problems.  Avoid drinking alcohol while using Zaditen. A reaction between the medicine and the alcohol may cause unwanted side effects and other problems.  This medicine can cause some people to become drowsy, dizzy, or less alert than normal.  Make sure you are aware of how this medicine works with your body before you drive or do anything that could be dangerous.

Patient Family Information  : zaditen is availble in liquid form and tablet form. Zaditen must be taken continuously in order for it to be effective.  Continue taking your other asthma medications until told otherwise by a doctor.  Zaditen can be  taken with or without food.  Follow the directions on your prescription label on how to take Zaditen.   If you miss a dose, take the dose as soon as you remember.  If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing regime.  Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.
