About Entocort Enema

Uses and Benefits of Entocort Enema

Entocort Enema is indicated for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, which is the inflammation of the bowel wall, specifically in the rectum and lower large bowel. This medication works as an anti-inflammatory agent, belonging to the steroid family. Entocort Enema helps to reduce inflammation by lowering the production of substances that contribute to the inflammatory process, thus providing relief from the symptoms of ulcerative colitis.

Ingredients in Entocort Enema

The active ingredient in Entocort Enema is budesonide. Inactive ingredients include colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose, magnesium stearate, methyl paraben, polyvidone, propyl paraben, riboflavin-5 phosphate sodium, and water.

How to Use Entocort Enema?

Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.

To prepare an enema, remove the protective cap from the nozzle and place a tablet from the aluminum foil pack into the bottle. DO NOT SWALLOW THE TABLET. Attach the nozzle back to the bottle, ensuring the protective cap is securely on. Shake the bottle vigorously for at least 10 seconds until the tablet dissolves and the liquid turns slightly yellow. The final volume will be about 115 mL.

A plastic bag is provided to protect your hand during administration. Put your hand inside the bag and grip the bottle. Lie down on your left side, shake the bottle again, and remove the protective cap. Gently insert the nozzle into your rectum and empty the contents of the bottle. After use, remove the nozzle from your rectum and pull the plastic bag off by removing it over the bottle.

Roll onto your stomach and stay in this position for 5 minutes. Then, choose a comfortable position to sleep in and try to retain the enema for as long as possible, ideally overnight.

After preparation, Entocort Enema is for immediate use.

Missed Dose

If you forget a dose, do not make up for the missed dose. Simply continue with your next dose as prescribed.

Overdose

If you use too much Entocort Enema, contact a healthcare provider, hospital, or Poison Control Center immediately, even if there are no symptoms. Do not use Entocort Enema more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed. Accidental single use of more than prescribed should not cause harm. However, prolonged use may lead to side effects. If you think this has occurred, speak with your doctor.

Who Should Not Use Entocort Enema?

Do not use Entocort Enema if you have holes in your bowel, bowel obstructions, twisted or tubular bowel sections (fistulas), wounds, abscesses, or infections in the bowel. Do not use Entocort Enema if you have any other infections in your body or if you have tuberculosis.

Also, do not use Entocort Enema if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Please refer to the ‘Ingredient Section’ for more information.
