About Pulmicort Nebules (Budesonide)
Uses and Benefits of Pulmicort Nebules (Budesonide)
Pulmicort Nebules (budesonide) is indicated for the treatment of asthma in adults and children. It helps control and prevent asthma symptoms, including wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing. Pulmicort Nebules are also used to treat croup in infants and children, a condition causing a barking cough and difficulty breathing due to airway swelling.
Ingredients in Pulmicort Nebules (Budesonide)
The active ingredient in Pulmicort Nebules is budesonide. Inactive ingredients include disodium edetate, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, citric acid, polysorbate 80, and water.
How to Use Pulmicort Nebules (Budesonide)?
Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.
The Nebules should be used with a nebulizer, which turns the medication into a fine mist for inhalation. Use a compressed air jet nebulizer with a face mask or mouthpiece.
The dosage of the ampules depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. Check that you are using the correct strength.
Inhale the Nebules as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once or twice daily. Breathe calmly and deeply until the mist stops, usually in 5 to 10 minutes.
To prevent dry mouth, hoarseness, and oral yeast infections, rinse your mouth with water after each use. Wash your face where the face mask or mouthpiece touched your skin to prevent irritation.
Use it regularly at the same time(s) each day to help you remember. Discuss with your healthcare provider which inhalers or medications to use for daily control and for sudden breathing issues.
Do not swallow the rinse water. Do not increase the dose or stop using Pulmicort Nebules without consulting your healthcare provider.
If you take a different corticosteroid by mouth, such as prednisone, do not stop it without your healthcare provider’s guidance. Suddenly stopping the drug may worsen certain conditions. Your healthcare provider may gradually reduce your previous medication dose after starting it.
Who Should Not Use Pulmicort (Budesonide)?
Do not use Pulmicort if you have an allergy to budesonide or any other ingredients in the medication.
Do not use the Ampule as the primary treatment for status asthmaticus or acute asthma episodes. You will probably need a different kind of medicine (i.e. a fast-acting relief medication) in a different color puffer than the one you may already have been given to you. If you have more than one medicine, be careful not to confuse them.
Avoid use if you have moderate to severe bronchiectasis or active or inactive pulmonary tuberculosis. Do not use the ampules if you have untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral infections of the respiratory system. Consult your doctor for guidance if you have any concerns.

Safety Precautions for Pulmicort Nebules (Budesonide)
Before using Pulmicort Nebules, tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of respiratory infections or symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. Inform your provider if you have or are at risk for eye disorders such as cataracts, glaucoma, or increased intraocular pressure.
Additionally, let your provider know if you have conditions affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, especially in susceptible individuals, younger children, or patients using high doses for extended periods.
It should not be used with an ultrasonic nebulizer. Do not mix it with other medications in the nebulizer cup.
A responsible adult should supervise children using it. Rarely, it may increase the risk of respiratory infections or cause HPA axis suppression in certain individuals.
