Exelon Patch Uses

Exelon Patch (Rivastigmine) is a prescription medicine used to treat dementia (deterioration in cognitive function) that is caused by Alzheimer’s Disease or Parkinson’s Disease. This medication will not cure either of the diseases, but will be helpful in improving cognitive functions.

Exelon Patch works by boosting and restoring the levels of acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is an organic chemical in our brain that works as a neurotransmitter, which is a chemical messenger that is responsible for sending signals from nerve cells to target cells.

EXELON PATCH PRECAUTIONS

Before using Rivastigmine, contact a healthcare professional if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Inform them further if you have a family or medical history of:

  • Fainting
  • Seizures
  • Heart Disease
  • Lung/Breathing Problems
  • Stomach/Intestinal Problems
  • Urinary Problems

  • Kidney Disease

Before using the Exelon patch, consult your doctor first if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.

Using the Exelon patch may cause you to experience drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid or limit consuming alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) to avoid worsening these side effects. Do not drive or do hazardous activities that require focus or alertness until you are capable of properly performing

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking beta-blockers (acebutolol, bisoprolol, propranolol, labetalol, etcetera) or any anticholinergics such as ipratropium or oxybutynin.

Using two Exelon patches at the same time is not recommended, as it may lead to overdose. Remove the patch before applying a new patch to make sure that you are not wearing two. This is to decrease the risk of worsening the side effects of developing serious ones.

Apply the patch immediately after taking it out of its protective pouch. Cutting it into smaller pieces and touching the sticky sides of the patch is not recommended.

Before undergoing surgery, inform your doctor if you are using this patch.

Exelon patch must be placed in an area of the skin where it is unlikely to be rubbed by tight clothing.
