What is Estring?

Estring (estradiol) is a vaginal ring indicated to reduce vaginal and urinary symptoms of menopause, such as vaginal itching, vaginal dryness, frequent urination, and difficulty urinating. This medication is a slightly opaque, soft, and flexible ring that releases estradiol for 90 days.

Step by step guide in using Estring:

INSERTION

1. Wash your hands and dry them thoroughly.

2. Open the pouch of the vaginal ring and take it out.

3. Using your thumb and index finger, hold the vaginal ring. Press the opposite sides together.

4. Assume a position that’s comfortable for you – it could be standing, sitting, or lying down. Insert the vaginal ring into the vagina as far as you can. It should be placed comfortably in the upper third of the vagina.

REMOVAL

1. Wash your hands and dry them thoroughly.

2. Assume a position that’s comfortable for you. Gently pull this medication by looping your finger through the vaginal ring.

3. Discard the used vaginal ring properly.

Avoid smoking or using tobacco and other similar substances while on this medication. Smoking may further increase the risk of hypertension, blood clot, stroke, and heart attack.

This medication may cause dark patches on your skin and around your face. Sun exposure may worsen this side effect. Limit your exposure to the sun, and make sure to wear sunblock lotion when going out. Avoid indoor tanning.
