WHAT IS BRILINTA?

Brilinta (Ticagrelor) is a prescription drug that helps prevent cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, heart attack, stroke, and other life-threatening situations in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) and patients with a history of either condition. Brilinta belongs to the drug c called Platelet aggregation inhibitors. This medication works by making the platelets less sticky to prevent them from sticking together and forming dangerous blood clots in the blood flow. Doing so, it lowers the risk of stroke or heart attack.

What is Brilinta used for?

Brilinta blood thinner is used for preventing life-threatening situations in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) and patients with a history of myocardial infarction, Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), heart attack, or stroke.

Brilinta vs Plavix: Which is better?

Both medications are used to treat and prevent blood clots in the bloodstream. They are both classified as antiplatelet agents, platelet inhibitors, or blood thinners.

Brilinta (Ticagrelor) is recommended for people with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) as it is reversible and works faster. It is proven to have better patient outcomes than Plavix because of its better platelet inhibition. It is taken twice daily with a daily maintenance dose of Aspirin.

Plavix (Clopidogrel) may not be applicable for some patients due to genetic differences in liver enzymes. Patients who are considered CYP2C19 poor metabolizers are not recommended to take Plavix and may be prescribed an alternative treatment. It is taken once daily with a daily maintenance dose of Aspirin.

What are the foods to avoid while taking Brilinta?
