About Reclast (Zoledronic Acid IV Solution)
Uses and Benefits of Reclast (Zoledronic Acid IV Solution)
Reclast (Zoledronic Acid IV Solution) is indicated for the treatment of Paget’s disease of bone in adults. It attaches to bones and prevents excessive breakdown. A single dose works quickly and helps strengthen bones over time.
Ingredients in Reclast (Zoledronic Acid IV Solution)
The active ingredient in Reclast is zoledronic acid monohydrate. Each 100 mL bottle contains 5.330 mg of zoledronic acid monohydrate, equal to 5 mg of zoledronic acid on an anhydrous basis. Inactive ingredients include mannitol, sodium citrate, and water for injection.
How to Use Reclast (Zoledronic Acid IV Solution)?
Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.
Take calcium and vitamin D supplements as directed to prevent low blood calcium. Patients with Paget’s disease should take 1,500 mg of calcium daily in divided doses, such as 750 mg twice a day or 500 mg three times a day. Take 800 IU of vitamin D daily, especially during the first 2 weeks after receiving Reclast.
On the day of treatment, eat and drink normally. Drink at least 2 glasses of fluid, such as water, before receiving Reclast, as directed by your doctor.
A nurse or doctor will give Reclast as an intravenous (IV) infusion into your vein. The infusion takes at least 15 minutes.
Reclast works for a long time. You may not need another dose for a year or longer.
Who Should Not Use Reclast (Zoledronic Acid IV Solution)?
Do not use this medication if your blood calcium level is too low or if you have severe kidney problems. Do not use the injection if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, as it may harm your unborn baby.
Do not use this medication if you are breastfeeding. It is unknown whether the injection passes into breast milk. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to zoledronic acid or any other ingredients in the formulation. Refer to the inactive ingredients list for more information.
