About Zeffix

Uses and Benefits of Zeffix

Zeffix is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) when the disease is progressing, and the liver is inflamed. It helps slow the progression of HBV but does not cure the infection.

It is unknown if Zeffix is safe and effective in:

  • People with severe liver damage (decompensated liver disease)
  • People with HIV-1, hepatitis C, or hepatitis D (delta) virus
  • People who have had a liver transplant
  • Children under 2 years old with chronic HBV

Zeffix does not prevent the spread of HBV. Avoid activities that can transmit the virus, such as unprotected sex, sharing needles, or exposing others to your blood.

Ingredients in Zeffix

The active ingredient in Zeffix is lamivudine. Inactive ingredients include crospovidone, isomalt, isopropyl alcohol, magnesium stearate, and methylene chloride. The tablet coating contains Opadry Pink, which includes hypromellose, iron oxide red, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, titanium dioxide, and yellow iron oxide.

How to Take Zeffix?

Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.

Take Zeffix as directed, with or without food. Stay under your healthcare provider’s care during treatment.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take 2 doses at once or more than prescribed.

Your doctor may adjust your dose if you have kidney problems. Children ages 2 to 17 will receive a dose based on body weight. Tell your doctor if you or your child has trouble swallowing tablets.

If you take too much, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency room immediately.

Who Should Not Take Zeffix?

Do not take Zeffix if you are allergic to lamivudine or any of its ingredients. Check the medication leaflet for a full list of ingredients.

Safety Precautions for Zeffix

Before you take Zeffix, tell your healthcare provider if you have HIV-1 infection, kidney problems, or are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Zeffix can harm your unborn baby.

There is a pregnancy registry for women who take antiviral medicines during pregnancy. The registry collects information about your health and your baby’s health. Ask your healthcare provider how to participate.
