About Xerese
Uses and Benefits of Xerese
Xerese is indicated for the treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis) in people aged 6 and older. It helps shorten the healing time and reduces the chance of the cold sore worsening or ulcerating. Xerese is not a cure for cold sores. The safety and effectiveness of Xerese in children under 6 years old are not established.
Ingredients in Xeresei
The active ingredients in Xerese are acyclovir and hydrocortisone. Inactive ingredients include cetostearyl alcohol, citric acid monohydrate, isopropyl myristate, mineral oil, Poloxamer 188, propylene glycol, purified water, sodium hydroxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, and white petrolatum. It may also contain hydrochloric acid.
How to Use Xerese?
Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.
Apply Xerese to the affected area as soon as you notice the first symptom of a cold sore, such as itching, redness, burning, or tingling. You can also use it when the cold sore becomes visible. Apply Xerese over the entire affected area, including the outer edge of the cold sore. Avoid rubbing the cold sore to prevent spreading it to other areas around your mouth or worsening the sore.
Do not cover the cold sore or the surrounding area with a bandage. Avoid using other skin products like makeup, sunscreen, lip balm, or medicines on or around the cold sore. Contact your doctor if your cold sore does not improve within 2 weeks.
Who Should Not Use Xerese?
There are no known contraindications for using Xerese. Always consult your doctor if you have concerns about potential allergies or sensitivities to this medication or its ingredients.
Refer to the ‘Ingredients in Xerese’ section for a complete list of active and inactive ingredients.
