About TOBI Podhaler Capsules
Uses and Benefits of TOBI Podhaler Capsules
TOBI Podhaler Capsules (Tobramycin) are indicated for treating bacterial lung infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in people with cystic fibrosis. It contains tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, which works by killing the bacteria or preventing their growth. This helps reduce infection symptoms and improve lung function.
Ingredients in TOBI Podhaler Capsules
The active ingredient in TOBI Podhaler is tobramycin. Inactive ingredients include 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSPC), calcium chloride, and sulfuric acid for pH adjustment.
How to Use TOBI Podhaler Capsules?
Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.
Use TOBI Podhaler as instructed by your healthcare provider. If you’re unsure how to use it, ask your provider or pharmacist for guidance.
For adults and children over 6 years old, the usual dose is to inhale the contents of 4 TOBI Podhaler capsules in the morning and 4 capsules in the evening using the Podhaler device. Ensure each capsule is empty after inhalation; if powder remains, repeat the inhalation until it’s cleared.
Take the doses as close to 12 hours apart as possible, but not less than 6 hours apart. After using TOBI Podhaler for 28 days, stop for 28 days. After this break, start using it again for 28 days. It is important to stick to the 28-day on, 28-day off cycle, even if you feel better.
If you have been prescribed a 7-day or 1-day pack before or during a 28-day treatment, count each day of use toward the on-treatment part of the cycle. You should only use a total of 28 consecutive days of treatment.
If you are taking other inhaled medications, your healthcare provider will tell you the best way to take them. Always use TOBI Podhaler after other cystic fibrosis therapies, such as chest physiotherapy.
If you accidentally inhale too much TOBI Podhaler or swallow the capsules, contact your healthcare provider right away. Use a new Podhaler device every 7 days. Caregivers should help children under 10 with using the TOBI Podhaler and supervise until they can use it correctly on their own.
Tell your doctor if your symptoms worsen while using TOBI Podhaler.
Who Should Not Use TOBI Podhaler Capsules (Tobramycin)
Do not use TOBI Podhaler if you are allergic to tobramycin, any ingredients in TOBI Podhaler, or other aminoglycoside antibiotics. Refer to the ‘Ingredients in TOBI Podhaler’ section for a list of nonmedicinal ingredients.
