About Proctofoam HC (hydrocortisone/pramoxine)
Uses and Benefits of Proctofoam HC (hydrocortisone/pramoxine)
Proctofoam HC (Hydrocortisone/Pramoxine) is indicated for the relief of inflammation and itching caused by certain skin conditions around the anus, including hemorrhoids. It treats corticosteroid-responsive skin problems such as rashes, irritation, and discomfort in the anal area. This medicine combines a corticosteroid to reduce swelling and an anesthetic to relieve pain and itching.
Ingredients in Proctofoam HC (hydrocortisone/pramoxine)
The active ingredients in Proctofoam HC are pramoxine hydrochloride and hydrocortisone acetate. Pramoxine relieves pain and itching, while hydrocortisone reduces inflammation. Inactive ingredients include propylene glycol, cetyl alcohol, PEG-100 stearate, propylparaben, methylparaben, trolamine, water, isobutane, propane, and ethylene distearamide.
How to Use Proctofoam HC (hydrocortisone/pramoxine)?
Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.
Apply Proctofoam HC to the affected area 3 to 4 times daily. For anal use, use the applicator provided. For perianal use, apply a small amount to the tissue and rub gently.
Before each use, place the cap on the container and shake it for 5 to 10 seconds. Do not remove the cap while using the product.
Hold the container upright on a flat surface. Gently place the tip of the applicator onto the container cap. Pull the plunger past the fill line. To prime, hold the container and applicator at eye level. Press down on the cap flanges and release. A burst of air may appear first. Usually, 1 to 2 pumps are needed for the foam to show.
To fill the applicator, press down firmly for 1 to 2 seconds and release. Wait 5 to 10 seconds for the foam to expand. Repeat until foam reaches the fill line. It usually takes 3 to 4 pumps. Remove the applicator from the cap. Do not overfill, as foam may back up under the cap.
Hold the applicator firmly. Insert the tip gently into the anus. Push the plunger to release the foam, then remove the applicator. Do not insert any part of the aerosol container or push the applicator past the anus.
After use, pull apart the applicator parts and rinse with warm water. Also, clean under the cap to prevent foam buildup and blockage.
Who Should Not Take Proctofoam HC (hydrocortisone/pramoxine)?
Do not use Proctofoam HC if you have an allergy to hydrocortisone, pramoxine, or any other ingredients in the foam. Check the “Ingredients in Proctofoam HC (Hydrocortisone/Pramoxine)” section for a full list of ingredients that may cause a reaction.
