About Linessa
Uses and Benefits of Linessa
Linessa is indicated for preventing pregnancy. It is an oral contraceptive, commonly called a birth control pill. When taken as prescribed by a healthcare provider, Linessa is highly effective in preventing pregnancy.
Ingredients in Linessa
The active ingredients in Linessa are desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol.
Inactive ingredients include hydroxypropyl, lactose monohydrate, methylcellulose, polyethylene glycol, starch, stearic acid, titanium dioxide, talc, and vitamin E. The yellow and orange tablets also contain yellow ferric oxide. The orange and red tablets also contain red ferric oxide.
Linessa 28 also contains 7 green tablets, which include the following inactive ingredients: corn starch, FD&C Blue No. 2 aluminum lake, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, talc, titanium dioxide, and yellow ferric oxide.
How to Take Linessa?
Follow your healthcare provider’s prescription exactly.
Take Linessa once daily at the same time each day. Swallow the tablets whole, with or without food. Take one tablet each day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day pill-free period when you will likely experience your period. If you miss a pill, refer to the instructions on the pill pack or consult your healthcare provider for guidance.
For maximum effectiveness, maintain a consistent schedule. Always inform your healthcare provider about any medications, including over-the-counter and herbal products, as they may interact with the medication.
Tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of blood clots, migraines, high blood pressure, or certain cancers. Use a backup method of birth control, like condoms or spermicide, during the first week or if you miss a dose.
Do not take more or less of the medication than prescribed. Do not use the medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or suspect you might be pregnant. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products while taking Linessa, as this increases the risk of blood clots.
Consult your healthcare provider before starting Linessa, especially if you have any of the risk factors mentioned. Never share your Linessa prescription with others.
Who Should Not Take Linessa?
Do not take Linessa if you are allergic to ethinyl estradiol, desogestrel, or any other ingredients in the medication. See the “Ingredients section” for detail.
Do not use the medication if you have a history of blood clots, stroke, heart attack, or coronary artery disease.
It is also not recommended if you have severe high blood pressure, diabetes with complications, or blood-clotting disorders.
Avoid taking the medication if you have very high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, smoke, or have migraine headaches.
You should also not take the medication if you are scheduled for major surgery, on prolonged bed rest, or have liver disease, including hepatitis C treated with certain medications.
Linessa is not suitable if you have liver tumors, known or suspected breast or uterine cancer, unusual vaginal bleeding, or a history of vision loss due to blood vessel disease of the eye.
Do not take Linessa if you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant.
