About Duavee

Uses and Benefits of Duavee

Duavee is indicated for women who have gone through menopause and have a uterus. Duavee is used to reduce moderate to severe hot flashes and to help lower the risk of developing osteoporosis (weak, brittle bones).

Ingredients in Duavee

The active ingredients in Duavee are conjugated estrogens and bazedoxifene. Conjugated estrogens are a mixture of sodium estrone sulfate, sodium equilin sulfate, and other components, including sodium sulfate conjugates, 17α-dihydroequilin, 17α-estradiol, and 17β-dihydroequilin.

Inactive ingredients include calcium phosphate tribasic, hydroxypropyl cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, powdered cellulose, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, sucrose, ascorbic acid, sucrose palmitic acid ester, hydroxyethylcellulose, titanium dioxide, red iron oxide, yellow iron oxide, black iron oxide, povidone, polydextrose, maltitol, poloxamer 188, propylene glycol, and isopropyl alcohol.

How to Use Duavee?

Follow your doctor’s instructions exactly.

Duavee comes in a blister package. Record the date you open the foil pouch in the space provided on the label. Do not use the medication if the blister package has been open for more than 60 days. Take 1 tablet at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole, with or without food. Only remove the tablet from the blister when you are ready to take it. Do not store the tablet in pill boxes or organizers.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at your usual time. Do not take 2 doses at once unless instructed by your doctor.

If you take calcium or vitamin D supplements, you may take them at the same time as the medication.

Who Should Not Use Duavee?

Do not use Duavee if you have or have had blood clots, or if you are allergic to estrogens, bazedoxifene, or any other ingredients in this medication. Check the “Ingredient section” for the list. Additionally, do not use this medication if you have unusual vaginal bleeding, as your healthcare provider should investigate any unusual bleeding.

Avoid using this medication if you have or have had certain types of cancer, including breast or uterine cancer, as estrogens may increase the risk of some cancers. Talk to your healthcare provider if you have or have had cancer. Furthermore, do not use this medication if you have or have had liver problems or if you have been diagnosed with a bleeding disorder. If you think you may be pregnant, do not use this medication, as it is not for pregnant women. If you suspect pregnancy, take a pregnancy test; if the test is positive, do not take this medication and consult your healthcare provider.

Lastly, do not use this medication if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. You and your healthcare provider should decide whether to use this medication or breastfeed, but not both.
