Inactive ingredients include benzyl alcohol, dibasic sodium phosphate, monobasic sodium phosphate, polyethylene glycol 3350, polysorbate 80, and sodium chloride in the multi-dose form. How to Use Depo Medrol Injection?

Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.

This injection will be given to you as an injection, either into a joint (intra-articular or intra-synovial) or into a muscle (intramuscular). The dose you receive depends on your condition and its severity. As your condition improves, your doctor will gradually lower your dose.

Do not stop treatment with this injection suddenly.

In case of an overdose, contact a healthcare provider, hospital, or Poison Control Center immediately, even if there are no symptoms.

Who Should Not Use Depo Medrol Injection?

Do not use this injection if you are allergic to methylprednisolone acetate, any other steroid medicine, or any other ingredients in this injection.

Do not use this injection if you have a fungal infection, a blood condition called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (a low platelet count) when the injection is given into your muscle, or if you have viral diseases such as cowpox, chickenpox, or herpes simplex of the eye.

Do not use this injection if you have unstable joints when it is injected into the joint. This injection should not be injected into your veins or spine. This injection with benzyl alcohol should not be given to premature infants. However, this injection with myristyl gamma picolinium chloride may be used.

Safety Precautions

Before you take Depo Medrol Injection, tell your healthcare provider if you have an infection, such as herpes simplex, chickenpox, tuberculosis, or threadworm. If you or your child are exposed to measles or chickenpox during treatment, contact your healthcare provider immediately, as serious or fatal side effects can occur if you or your child have not already had these infections. Inform your healthcare provider if you have recently had or are about to have any vaccine, or if you have heart problems, such as a recent heart attack (myocardial infarction), heart failure, or heart disease.

Additionally, let your healthcare provider know if you have bleeding or blood clotting problems (thromboembolic disorders), brittle bones (osteoporosis), high blood pressure, or water retention (oedema). Discuss if you have seizures or other nervous system problems, thyroid problems, muscle pain or weakness such as myasthenia gravis, skin cancer (Kaposi’s sarcoma), or adrenal gland tumors (pheochromocytoma). Notify them if you have certain eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, or herpes infection, as well as kidney disease or liver disease, including cirrhosis.

It is also important to inform your healthcare provider if you have certain mental or mood conditions, such as depression, or stomach or gut problems, such as ulcers or ulcerative colitis. Mention if you have low potassium or calcium levels, Cushing’s disease (due to excess cortisol hormone), or a weak immune response. If you suspect an infection, let your healthcare provider know, as corticosteroids like Depo Medrol Injection can increase the risk of infections and may mask their signs. Finally, tell your healthcare provider if you have diabetes or high blood sugar, or a condition called systemic sclerosis, where your body makes too much collagen.

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
