About Azopt Eye Drops
Uses and Benefits of Azopt Eye Drops
Azopt Eye Drops is indicated for the treatment of high pressure in the eye in adults with the following conditions: ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma
Ingredients in Azopt Eye Drops
The active ingredient in Azopt Eye Drops is brinzolamide. Inactive ingredients include Benzalkonium chloride (preservative), carbomer 974P, edetate disodium, hydrochloric acid (to adjust pH), mannitol, purified water, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide (to adjust pH), and tyloxapol.
How to Use Azopt Eye Drops?
Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
Apply Azopt Eye Drops as directed, ensuring that you use them correctly for the best results.
If you are using Azopt Eye Drops with other eye drops, make sure to wait at least 10 minutes between applications. Be careful not to touch the tip of the bottle with your eye or any surface to prevent contamination, which could cause eye infections. If you think the bottle may be contaminated or suspect an eye infection, contact your healthcare professional immediately.
Before using Azopt Eye Drops, wash your hands and shake the bottle well. Remove the cap, avoiding contact with the bottle tip. Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket. Hold the bottle above your eye and press gently to release one drop into the eye.
After applying the drop, close your eye and press your finger into the inner corner near your nose for 2 minutes. This helps the medication stay in your eye. If instructed, repeat with the other eye. Close the bottle securely after use.
Usual Dose: The typical dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day. If needed, your doctor may increase the dose to three times a day after 4 weeks of treatment.
Overdose: If you use more Azopt Eye Drops than prescribed, rinse your eye(s) with warm water. Do not apply more drops until your next scheduled dose. If you think you have used too much or swallowed any, contact a healthcare provider or poison control center immediately.
Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, apply one drop as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.
Who Should Not Use Azopt Eye Drops?
Do not use Azopt Eye Drops if you are allergic to brinzolamide or any other ingredients in the medication. If you are allergic to sulfonamides, also known as “sulfa drugs,” do not use Azopt. Additionally, avoid using Azopt if you have severe kidney problems or a condition that causes your blood to be too acidic, such as hyperchloremic acidosis. Do not use Azopt if you are currently taking oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.
