In recent years, the cost of prescription drugs in the United States has seen an exponential rise. Many Americans, especially those without insurance, find themselves burdened with out-of-pocket expenses that are increasingly unaffordable for their families. Consequently, a growing number of U.S. customers are actively seeking more cost-effective ways to access the essential medications they require. An increasing number of Americans have turned to licensed Canadian drugstores, like Medications Canada, in pursuit of more affordable Canadian drugstore prices. In a 2016 study, it was revealed that over 19 million U.S. adults have resorted to importing their medications from Canada or other countries to alleviate the financial strain.

Medications Canada Prices vs. U.S. Pharmacies

When examining the prices of commonly prescribed drugs, it’s evident that Canadian drugstore prices are notably more budget-friendly than what Americans encounter at local pharmacies. Consider Cialis, for instance. In Canada, you can acquire 8 tablets of 20mg brand-name Cialis for $130, while the average cost for the same medication in the U.S. hovers around $600.14 – a significant savings of over $470.14

Similar savings are experienced with other sought-after medications, such as Viagra. Purchasing this medication at a U.S. pharmacy would set you back an average of $733.20 for 12 x 100mg tablets, far exceeding the cost of procuring it online from a Canadian drugstore at just $109. For individuals requiring daily medication for conditions like asthma, a supply of 120 doses (160/4.5 mcg) of a Symbicort Inhaler typically costs about $331.30 on average in the United States, in stark contrast to the Canadian price of only $86.19.

The prices of the 20 most commonly prescribed brand-name drugs for seniors have risen nearly 10 times more than the annual rate of inflation over the past five years, according to a congressional report released Monday.

“Can you imagine if you went to an auto dealership and last year’s exact model was being sold at a 20 percent mark-up, and then you went back the next year and it had happened again?”

said Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, who released the report as part of a years-long investigation into escalating drug prices.

“That’s exactly what’s happening in the prescription drug industry, where the cost of identical drugs skyrockets year after year.”

The report examined the costs of the 20 most-prescribed drugs under the Medicare Part D program from 2012 to 2017. It found that the drug Nitrostat, used to relieve chest pain, had increased the most: a percentage change of 477%. Notably, half of the 20 brand medicines in this report are used to treat these chronic conditions, diabetes, high cholesterol, and chronic respiratory illnesses.
