What is Tapazole /Methimazole used for?

Tapazole is an antithyroid medication used in either the treatment of an overactive thyroid gland and/or preparing an overactive thyroid gland for surgery.

How should I take Tapazole/Methimazole ?

Always follow the directions your doctor has given you. Tapazole should be taken orally and may be consumed with or without food. Food can help reduce stomach irritation. Try to take Tapazole at the same time every day.

Avoid using Tapazole if you are allergic to any ingredient in Tapazole or if you are breast-feeding.

What precautions should I follow when taking Tapazole /Methimazole ?

Serious side effects may include: Allergic reaction; change in appetite; dark urine; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; severe or persistent headache, nausea, or vomiting; stomach pain; tremor; unusual bruisin

Less severe side effects can include: change in taste; dizziness; drowsiness; headache; joint pain; lightheadedness; muscle pain; nausea; numbness and tingling; stomach upset; and vomiting.
