How should I take Nexium/Esomeprazole?

Take Nexium (Esomeprazole) only a prescribed by your doctor or on the prescription. Do not take Nexium (Esomeprazole) in larger doses or for a longer duration than recommended. Nexium (Esomeprazole) is usually prescribed for 4 to 8 weeks only, however your doctor may recommend a second course if you require more healing. Take Nexium (Esomeprazole) with a full glass of plain water and do not crush or break the capsule; swallow it whole. Nexium (Esomeprazole) is designed for slow release so breaking the pill will negatively affect the healing process. To make Nexium (Esomeprazole) swallowing easier, you can open the capsule and sprinkle the medicine into pudding or applesauce-like foods, but remember to swallow the mixture right away without chewing. Nexium (Esomeprazole) is also to be ingested via feeding tube; sprinkle the medicine into a 60 mm syringe and mix in 50 mm of water. Place the plunger into the syringe and shake the mixture well. Make sure there are no medicine granules stuck in the tip of the syringe. Attach the syringe to the NG tube and push the plunger down to empty the syringe into the tube. Then flush the tube with more water to wash the contents down. Continue taking the Nexium (Esomeprazole) for the extent of your course even if symptoms improve.
