Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) is used to prevent pregnancy. It can also be prescribed to treat acne.

Before taking Avonex (Interferon Beta), inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding; if you are taking prescription or over the counter medication, herbal preparation, or dietary supplements; if you have a history of blood clot, stroke, or circulation problems; if you have a hormone-related cancer such as uterine or breast cancer; if you have abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease or cancer, severe migraine headaches or a history of jaundice caused by birth control pills; if you have high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, heart disease, a history of heart attack, angina (chest pain); if you have high cholesterol or if you are overweight; if you have a history of depression, gallbladder disease, diabetes, seizures or epilepsy, a history of irregular menstrual cycles or a history of fibrocystic breast disease, lumps, nodules, or an abnormal mammogram.
When taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate), you will have an increased risk of blood clots, heart attack or stroke, especially if you are a smoke or are older than 35 years old. Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) does not prevent you from contracting or spreading sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Take this medication as directed on the label or by your pharmacist, doctor, or other healthcare provider. When first using Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate), use back-up contraception such as condoms or a spermicde. Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) comes in a package containing 28 pills, seven of them are “reminder pills” to keep you on a regular pill taking cycle over the course of 28 days (4 weeks). When you are taking reminder pills, your period usually would start. On the first 3 months of taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate), you may experience breakthrough bleeding. Inform your doctor if it is very heavy or it continues.
